Parents Need To Make Changes!

In the last week I have written about a teen changing his ipod song and crashing into a house and most recently two teens plotting to kill students, teachers and faculty at local schools.  These stories bring to mind once again, what is happening? Bad stories always seem to follow teens, but recently the stories seem to be much scarier. Are parents just too self absorbed with their own issues that they are not seeing what is happening to their teens? Could it be something else that is happening to our teens? These are questions that need to be answered. Thinking about the incident regarding the teens wanting to kill their fellow classmates and teachers, what will the other teens going to this school be feeling? What kind of memories will they carry with them into the future? Won’t they remember when someone threatened to possibly kill them? Won’t they be afraid to go to school? I know I would be scared to go to school and if my children went to this school I would be afraid everyday, even though these two were caught.  This could of been a much more tragic incident if someone hadn’t reported this.

Parents let’s talk about this, please leave me your opinion on all this.

  1. This is really scary stuff and it just seems to get worse and worse. I’m thankful my own kids are grown and past all of this but have grandchildren in school now and am very concerned for their safety at school and for that matter any place they go. Gone are the days when you could feel safe letting your kids run free for hours at a time :(

  2. It is very scary to think about what teenagers are facing in school and in social situations these days. I home school my children and am thankful that I don’t have to worry all day long about what they are exposed to in a public school. But since the oldest is nearly seventeen he has a pretty active social life- I don’t know how parents managed before cell phones. When he’s out and about the cell phone is my lifeline.
I don’t know what is causing all these teen issues, whether it is distracted parents or just parents who have no idea how to raise a child, or just all the circumstances and things that the kids are exposed to.

  3. scary indeed, good post dearest xx

  4. I have an 18 year old, 11 year old, and a 3 year old. Parenting is so tough in our society. I appreciate the questions you bring to people’s attention. I subscribed to the blog and look forward to reading more!

  5. We had to change my 12 year old’s school next year due to incessant bullying. When I contacted the parents of the kids picking on him (i.e slamming him up against his locker) they pretty much laughed it off as boys will be boys. Disgusts me and scares me to think of the future of our society.

  6. This is a very cool article, I could not have agreed more.

  7. these event, though shocking, arent uncommon in society unfortunantly. i am a teenager currently going to high school, and i agree violence is getting to the point where its getting uncontrolable. I though that when my little brother, in eighth grade, had a classme have a gun with ammo in his locker, that I was only living in a bad area. i have moved ince then to a new state and its just as bad here. within two weeks of attending my new school a teenage boy was jumped in front of my school and had to get stiches. School is only becoming more dangerous.
I think its due to many different influences. these kids all have parents who dopnt watch their kids, or could care less where they are because they themsleves are not very well off. teachrs dont always know how to handle it and just send them away. the kids arent always told and punished for what they decide to do. its attention and a lack of concern for other people….its tough to be a teen in 2011.

  8. Fine post! I am also planning to publish a blog post about it… thanks a lot
